X600 Fan-Leg Stool des. Alvar Aalto, 1954 (made by Artek)
We have just one of these three-legged stools left - they are no longer in production. The X600 was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1954 and features his X-Leg design. The fan detail connecting the seat to the top of the leg is quietly beautiful. This is a piece of perfectly made, clean and classic design.
An original example of the X600 is held by the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
Made in Finland by Artek.
Legs: natural beech
Seat: ash veneer.
Alvar Aalto is one of the greatest names in modern architecture and design. Born Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto (February 3, 1898 - May 11, 1976) in Kuortane, Finland, Aalto was noted for his humanistic approach to modernism. Aalto was one of the first and most influential architects of the Scandinavian modern movement, and a member of the Congres Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne.
