In summer 1997, David Hockney was often to be found driving across the Yorkshire Wolds to visit his sick friend, Jonathan Silver. Jonathan urged David to paint Yorkshire, and these beautiful oils began to appear, including The Road to York Through Sledmere. The rich palette of these dynamic works are a celebration of life, love and landscape.
