Woldgate Woods, Winter, 2010 poster by David Hockney

Artist: David Hockney

This beautiful poster captures a moment from Woldgate Woods, Winter, 2010 by David Hockney. This vast video installation was installed at Salts Mill just before the English lockdown of winter 2020. At the time of writing, November 5th 2020, the poster has just rolled off the presses.

Whilst living in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, Hockney enjoyed working with video. Cameras were rigged to the exterior of a 4x4 which would drive slowly around the countryside. Hockney created what he calls a ‘Cubist movie’ capturing moments in a literal moving picture: part of Hockney’s lifelong exploration of time, landscape and memory. The poster is a still from the movie.

At Salts, the Woldgate Woods installation is displayed amidst Hockney’s Arrival of Spring, his monumental iPad study of nature over a period of 6 months. The video art documents the very same road on a single bright and chilly day. We have several posters of The Arrival of Spring for sale to compliment your Woldgate Woods  poster, just search 'Arrival of Spring.'
