Simply stunning!
As part of its 90th anniversary festivities, Artek has joined forces with Finnish design house Marimekko to present a limited furniture collection. This collaborative collection merges Marimekko’s art of printmaking and Artek’s technology of wood bending.
This edition of Stool 60 features Maija Isola’s Seireeni (siren) pattern, created in 1964 and inspired by the movement of water during her travels in Greece. The pattern’s name recalls the mythical sirens whose songs lured sailors at sea.
Using a marquetry technique, the pattern is applied to the birch veneer seat, where contrasting wood grains create a shimmering effect. The interaction of light, pattern, and material brings the design to life.
All products are made from responsibly sourced Finnish birchwood at Artek’s factory near Turku in south-western Finland.
Designed in 1933, this iconic three-legged stool by Alvar Aalto is designed to be stacked with the legs in a spiral, allowing you to stack up to 10 stools on top of each other.
