Gable Ends Giclée Print by Ian Beesley - signed, numbered edition of 100

£125.00

Artist: Ian Beesley

This stunning large limited edition Giclée print (A1 size, edition of 100) has been signed, numbered and titled by the artist, Ian Beesley. It's printed by Tommy Davidson-Hawley  at Prints of Thieves in Leeds on  Humber Smooth Cotton 300gsm

The print shows a group of 9 photographs of gable ends in the North of England. The photographs were taken in the 1970s. Beesley says: "In the 1970s when I wandered the streets of Bradford photographing life, I gravitated to street corners and gable ends. They were focal points with graffiti, ghost signs and gatherings.

The end of the street where I grew up was Hardy’s corner - named after the corner shop. The bus stop to town was there, the telephone box, the post box and the billboard for the latest film releases for the Odeon (now Bradford Live)

Around the streets many a gable end had painted wickets in Summer and goalposts in Winter. A few disgruntled end terrace dwellers would paint over them or write “Do not kick balls against this wall”  - inevitably the sign would be changed to “Please kick balls against this wall.”  We changed lots of them and were chased up the street by many an irate householder."
