God Is In The Details - Mies van der Rohe Quote Poster

Artist: Cinqpoints

“God is in the details,” - so said Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969), himself a God of twentieth century architecture. This poster is celebration of Mies and his famous dictum.

Architect Jim Eyre of Wilkinson Eyre summed up the importance of this comment rather nicely in a 2001 essay - he wrote that this quote "reveals the absolute nature of Mies's architecture, which displays such clarity that our perception of his buildings is elevated to an almost spiritual experience. There is also a strong hint that working out details requires great application – something akin to religious fervour. It is always worth remembering ... when things are getting a little complicated, particularly with regard to detailing on buildings. It is often worth going back and reminding yourself what it is that the details should speak of. A concise expression is usually more enduring."
