Homage to the Square: Yellow Climate poster by Josef Albers

£65.00

Artist: Josef Albers

Super striking and super zingy, this poster features Homage to the Square: Yellow Climate (1961) by the great Josef Albers (1888-1976). This poster is produced by the Louisiana Museum in Denmark.

Albers worked theoretically and practically with design, graphics, photography and poetry - but it's his paintings, especially the studies of the square, that have left the most lasting traces. From 1950 until his death – for more than 25 years – Albers produced hundreds of variations of Homage to the Square .

Albers studied colour like no-one else. It was in his  Homage to the Square series that his ability to maximise the spatial effects of colour reached its peak.

Albers was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and was also the most extraordinary of teachers, first at the Bauhaus school in Germany,  after escaping from Nazism in 1933 as a teacher in North Carolina, and then as a professor at Yale University where he taught and influenced, amongst many others, Richard Serra.
