Self Portrait, 1981 poster by Jean-Michel Basquiat (printed on watercolour paper)

£55.00

Jean-Michel Basquiat's rather gorgeous Self Portrait features two black silhouettes. The silhouette on the right-hand panel overlaps a sheet of song titles taken from Thelonious Monk's 'Blue Note Sessions'. Repeated in a square formation on the left-hand panel is the name of the jazz tenor saxophonist, Ben Webster. Basquiat included references to jazz musicians in his artwork as he recognised that jazz music was also a major form of creative expression.

Approximate dimensions: paper size is 36 x 60 cm. The image area measures 25 × 48 cm and comes with a border containing the artist name and print title near the bottom edge of the paper.
