Known for linear, childlike imagery, abstracted forms and symbols, and an enthusiasm for colour relationships, Paul Klee pursued a wide range of subjects during his long career, such as literature, music, poetry, and daily life. Klee was influenced by the Cubism of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, as well as his involvement with the German Expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) and his lifelong friendship with fellow artist Wassily Kandinsky.
