Celia in Black Dress with Red Stockings poster by David Hockney (Gallery Kammer, 1981)
£320.00
This dreamy archive / vintage David Hockney poster features Celia in a Black Dress with Red Stockings.
Printed for Galerie Kammer’s 1981 David Hockney exhibition “Drawings and Prints”, this beautiful poster reproduces Hockney’s drawing Celia in a Black Dress and Red Stockings 1973. Fashion and textile designer Celia Birtwell is sitting, curled up on a green chair, staring dreamily ahead. She is wearing a knee-length dress, red stockings, strappy sandals, and sporting her usual spray of wavy hair. She wears a hint of purple eyeshadow, and at the hem of her dress is a colourful pattern—perhaps of her own design. With hands in her lap, she is frozen in a moment of introspective leisure. Shaded in vibrant scarlet red, yellow, green, and blue, Hockney's subject achieves a pastel luminescence.
