Gull - birch plywood - des. Egon Riss, 1939 (made by Isokon Plus)

Only fifteen of the Gull bookstands were originally produced before the Second World War halted production in 1939 due to shortages in plywood. Designed as the smaller sibling to Egon Riss’s Penguin Donkey, the Gull is sculptural in design. As its name suggests, it has a profile reminiscent of a bird. The Gull was successfully bought back into production in 2020.
