Polar Coordinate IV poster by Frank Stella (Democratic Convention, 1980)

Artist: Frank Stella

This poster, printed in 1980 for the US Democratic Party Convention at Madison Square Garden, features a very beautiful work by the stellar Frank Stella. The work references Stella's Polar Coordinates for Ronnie Peterson IV 1980), part of a series of 8 pieces he dedicated to Ronnie Peterson, a Formula One driver who was killed in the 1978 Italian Grand Prix.

One of the greatest living and most influential American artists, Stella was born in Malden, Massachusetts in 1936. The spotlight fell on him in the 60s and it has stayed put ever since as Stella has tirelessly experimented with scale, form, colour, depth, texture and material to create an extraordinary range of work.
