This wonderful poster reproduces Yayoi Kusama's Self Obliteration By Dots 1968 - one of the Japanese artist's avant-garde New York works from 1968, in which performance and polka dots merge. This was a formative period for Kusama, where new artistic currents such as pop art and minimalism were taking shape. Kusama was part of this environment, but as a non-Western, female artist, she developed a very distinctive artistic practice.
Kusama often appears in her work, as she does here. The polka dots are a big part of her oeuvre: they are her hallucinations and inner life, her signature and her logo. This poster was produced by the Louisiana Museum, Denmark for their exhibition Kusama - In Infinity (2015-16)
Dimensions: 80 x 69cm.
