Step into the fantastical world of Sleeping Beauty with this wonderful print, showcasing the 1970s work of the late illustrator Brian Wildsmith - breaker of moulds and moulder of imaginations! This is a contemporary reprint of an original poster created by Wildsmith in the early 70s, commissioned by his American publisher Franklin Watts of N.Y.C. This is the first time the posters have ever been reprinted - entirely overseen by the Wildsmith family.
Take a look at Hansel and Gretel and the other companion print, The Snow Queen (also available from saltsmillshop) and hang as a stunning triptych.
Wildsmith brings Sleeping Beauty to life with breathtaking detail and imagination. The scene pulses with growth, heart and soul - an intricate maze of wildflowers, brambles, and untamed foliage wraps the castle, evoking years of slumber and nature’s claim over the long-forgotten kingdom. The riot of vibrant paintwork contrasts magically with the soft glow of moonlight streaming through an arched window, illuminating the serene stillness of the sleeping princess. Dreamlike glow versus shattering sky. Feral flora versus deep sleep - this painting is a brilliant exercise in poetic tension. While the loom by her bedside symbolises the spell that binds her fate, the prince approaches on horseback, ready to awaken the story from its slumber.
