The Red Studio, 1911 poster by Henri Matisse
‘The Red Studio’ features a small retrospective of Henri Matisse’s studio complete with paintings, sculptures, and ceramics he had recently created. The artworks have been depicted using colour and are highly detailed whereas the studio’s architecture and furnishings are only indicated by the negative gaps in the red surface. In the centre of the painting is a grandfather clock without hands suggesting that Matisse felt as if time was suspended in the oasis of his studio.
