The Snow Queen poster by Brian Wildsmith

£85.00

Step into the fantastical world of The Snow Queen with this wonderful print, showcasing the  1970s work of the late illustrator Brian Wildsmith - breaker of moulds and moulder of imaginations. This is a contemporary reprint of an original poster created by Wildsmith in the early 70s, commissioned by his American publisher Franklin Watts of N.Y.C. This is the first time the posters have ever been reprinted -  entirely overseen by the Wildsmith family.  Take a look at Hansel and Gretel and the other companion print, Sleeping Beauty (both also available from saltsmillshop) - their jewel-hued intricacy would make a show-stopping triptych.

This is a superbly detailed reproduction of Brian Wildsmiths Snow Queen, an iconic illustration created in the 1970s. At the top, the Snow Queen rides through the sky in a sleigh pulled by reindeer, her son - the prince - by her side. Below, a breathtaking aerial view of a vibrant city unfolds, painted in striking geometric shapes that shift from bold greens and blues to warm yellows, pinks, and oranges. The graphic mastery of the citys architecture contrasts beautifully with the softness and fragility of the human, animal, and equestrian elements, creating a compelling visual tension. The citys flat, almost abstract form is peeled outward from a central square, where a ceremonial equestrian scene brings a delicate and tense humanity to the composition. This print offers a rare opportunity to own a work that blends bold geometric precision with the gentle fluidity of storytelling, capturing the timeless beauty and complexity of Brian Wildsmiths art.
