Aalto Vase Recycled Edition - 120mm - des. Alvar Aalto, made by Iittala

£101.25

By: Iittala

Design legend Alvar Aalto’s asymmetrical, soft waves (“aalto” in Finnish) have become a staple of Nordic design since the Iittala commissioned piece premiered at the 1937 Paris World Fair. Iittala takes this iconic vase to another level with the new recycled edition Aalto Vase. The vase is made of 100% recycled glass produced entirely from waste glass at the Iittala Glass Factory in Finland. Each unique glass vase is first mouthblown, then hand cut before going through several polishings at the Iittala Glass Factory. Mixed coloured glass results in a beautiful variation of blues and greens.

An Aalto vase makes a thoughtful gift for a special occasion, such as a wedding or birthday.

Alvar Aalto Collection

In 1936, Alvar Aalto’s series of glass vases won first prize in the 1936 Karhula-Iittala Glass Design Competition. Compared to the decorative objects of the time, the simple yet organic shape of this vase was a revolutionary statement. Inspired by waves (“aalto” in Finnish) in the water, the vase is a symbol of Finnish design and one of the most famous glass objects in the world.

Each and every vase in the Alvar Aalto Collection continues to be mouth blown at the Iittala factory and comes in a wide range of colours and sizes. The Collection is a staple of modern Scandinavian design and Iittala’s most iconic series. Additional items inspired by Aalto and created by Pentagon Design such as steel bowls, wooden platters and votives can also be found in the Alvar Aalto Collection.

About Alvar Aalto (1898 - 1976)

Alvar Aalto is possibly the most enduringly influential of all Scandinavian designers. Although primarily an architect, he also successfully turned his hand to glassware, light fittings, furniture and even door handles.
